Turkiye Defeats Austria 2-1 → 'Come out to the Netherlands!' Quarterfinals clash

Turkiye defeated Austria thanks to Merich Demiral's multi-goal and succeeded in advancing to the quarterfinals.

Turkiye won 2-1 in the round of 16 of the UEFA 2024 European Championship (Euro 2024) against Austria at Leipzig Stadium in Leipzig, Germany on the 3rd (Korea time).

Turkiye, ranked 42nd in the FIFA rankings, secured its first advance to the quarterfinals in 16 years since Euro 2008 by winning against Austria, ranked 25th, 17 places higher than them. On the contrary, Austria, which made a splash by beating France, the Netherlands and Poland in the group stage, ended the tournament by eliminating the round of 16.

Turkiye defeated Austria on the day thanks to Merich Demiral's multi-goal. In particular, Demiral scored the first goal 57 seconds into the first half, playing a big role in his team's victory. Having made it to the quarterfinals, Turkiye will have a showdown with the Netherlands on the 7th with a ticket to the semifinals.

Austria, which faced an unexpected blow, struggled to tie the game. Austria also had a chance to score in the fifth minute of the first half, but failed to equalize. Schmidt's low cross toward the net passed the Turkiye defense and the goalkeeper, and Baumgartner tried to shoot but failed to equalize as he failed to touch the ball properly.
